 | Mirco Mencacci Sound designer As early as 4 years old, Mirco Mencacci gets interested in acoustics and sound recording, and develops abilities of echolocation. In 1975, at 14, he conducts experiments on dichotic listening. While only 16, he creates a recording studio which will last until 2001. He quickly becomes a sound engineer and editor. He is charged of the sound restauration of various phonographic media, of creating sound universes for the theatre, of the recording of audio books. He is also the founder and promoter of the foundation “In Suono”, of a local radio, and of the “Festival of Sound”of Lari (PI). In 1992 Mirco Mencacci founds a musical publishing company, and publishes practical guidebooks for musical software, produces bands and records famous artists. Technical director of “Sound Art 23” in Roma,, he creates the first sound postproduction studio,SAM. Mirco Mencacci has worked on the sound track of more than 340 movies for such script writers as Michelangelo Antonioni, Nanni Moretti, Marco Tullio Giordana, Vittorio de Seta, etc…He is currently in charge of transcribing 300 magnetic audio/video tapes of the archives of the Theatre of La Scala in Milano, and takes part in the Paolo Benvenuti film “La ragazza del lago”(the girl of the lake), about Giacomo Puccini, as the sound designer. |  | Thierry Aflalou Producteur / Réalisateur Born in Marseille in 1968, Thierry Aflalou studied communication and language science, in this town as well as cultural and social animation. Then he went to Paris for a Masters in Film and Audio visual Studies. In 1992, he founded his own production company, Comic Strip, in Marseilles. He produces mostly short fictions and creative documentaries. He has recently tackled longer fictions. He also produces TV magazines and tv commercials, videoclips and various fictions. Among these, he has produced the films of Philippe Carrese “Liberata”, and “Malaterra”, winning several prizes, of Bernard Boespflug “Affair(s) to be followed”, “Robin Renucci , Craftsman and Poet”. Thierry Aflalou has also directed several shorts “The Sun in the Heart” (documentary), “Luna Park” (fiction), “Fury and Faith” (videoclip)… |  | Pierre Desrochers Compositeur Born in Montreal in 1955, Pierre Desrochers graduated to a PhD. in Music Composition in 1990. Today, he writes numerous scores for films. He has signed such scores as “Maelström”, “A 32nd of August on Earth”, both by Denis Villeneuve, “Disorderly Retreat” and “The Sarazin Woman” by Paul Tana, “Quebec-Montreal”, by Ricardo Trogi, and more recently, “Living With My Father”, by Sébastien Rose as well as “The Secret Life Of Happy People” by Stéphane Lapointe. Interested in animated movies, he has composed the music of “Mirrors Of Time”, by Jean-Jacques Leduc, winner of the Animated Film Festival of Annecy in 1991 and of the Melbourne Festival. His name also features on the credits of many documentaries, among which “Those Who Step Lightly Die Without Traces” by Bernard Emond, who won in 1993 the Best Documentary Prize of the Cinema Rendez-Vous in Quebec. Pierre Desrochers currently works at the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM), where he teaches music and sound post-production in movies. |  | Marta Billingsley Sound designer Marta Billingsley was born in Rome in 1966, and after a ten-year carreer of restauring old furniture, she got interested in editing sound, and became a professional in 1996. She acquired numerous technical skills, particularly at the “Sound On Studios”, where she worked from 1996 to 1998 and a real know-how thank to her collaboration with Michael Billingsley whose reputation is well known (he worked with the greatest Italian film makers, such as Bertolucci, Antonioni, Fellini, Sergio Leone and Liliana Cavani, and more recently he was sound designer for the Danis Tanovic film “No Man’s Land”). In 2001, with all this experience, she joins Mirco Mencacci’s company S.a.m., bringing all her passion with her. Since then she has edited the sound of many films, short and long, such as “Quando sei nato non piu nasconderti” (Quand tu es né…) by Marco Tullio Giordana, which was nominated for the Golden Palm in Cannes, and was awarded the François Chalais Prize in 2005, to quote but one. |
